Streamline! A dynamic process mapping and modeling workshop.
Lead Teams in Transforming Static Process Maps into Dynamic Models
Uncover the Effects of Real-World Variability Through Simulation
Improving a process or designing one from scratch typically begins with creating a process map. Process maps are critical for capturing the current workflow and visualizing the improvements you and your team plan to implement.
In a perfect scenario, static maps would be the only tool we need to predict and trust a process's future state. But the real world is full of unpredictability, change, and nuance, and without factoring in variability, processes rarely turn out as planned. So, how can we implement improvements in a world where nothing happens “on average?”
Streamline is an interactive workshop that teaches participants how to transform their static process maps into living models using Process Playground, a powerful modeling tool within EngineRoom. Participants learn how to simulate real-world conditions, address variability, and confidently improve their processes in real-time with data-driven insights.

Designing the Future State with Process Playground
Streamline is an immersive workshop that guides participants through a hands-on process improvement journey. With the help of Gridlock, a lean workflow simulation, participants will immerse themselves in a process flow as one of four roles. After a round of play, they will work together to map the current state of the process. Then, with the help of a facilitator, the teams will use Process Playground to transform their process maps into process models and iterate on those models until they mimic the reality of the game.
Once a baseline model is validated, the teams will collaborate to brainstorm improvement opportunities. They will then pilot their lean countermeasures using their process model to see firsthand how their decisions will impact the next run. Finally, they'll get to implement their improvements in the next round of play in the game and see how closely their model matches reality!
Critical Thinking in Process Improvement
Streamline isn't just about learning the tools—it's about thinking critically at each stage of the design process. This workshop combines the efforts of an engaging simulation mimicking common process problems in a fast-paced environment with hands-on experience modeling a process. Through the guidance of an experienced facilitator, participants will learn how to test the effectiveness of their improvements in real world scenarios, gaining deeper insights into effective problem-solving and process optimization.
Participants will perform various exercises including:
- Exploring process solutions using value stream mapping
- Experimenting with virtual designs in Process Playground
- Optimizing workflows to eliminate waste and inefficiencies
- Validating improvements with robustness testing and simulations
- Predicting performance with discrete event simulation
- Engaging stakeholders with data-driven recommendations
Visualize and Experiment with Process Playground®
With Process Playground in EngineRoom, static process maps transform into interactive, animated models of your process. Creating a digital twin allows you to simulate process changes, visualize bottlenecks, and experiment with new designs—all before implementing them in the real world. You'll gain the confidence to make data-driven decisions, optimize your process, and achieve sustainable improvements.
Instructor Support:
- Access to Gridlock for Facilitators
- Pre-workshop enrollment in EngineRoom for all participants
- Instructor slide deck for modeling in Process Playground
- Annotated solutions and teaching tips to adapt the workshop to different audiences
