Bill Hathaway
Founder and CEO
Bill Hathaway is the founder and CEO of MoreSteam, the leading online platform for process improvement training and technology, launched in 2000. A genuine pioneer in his field, Bill developed and introduced the first online Lean Six Sigma Black Belt course in 2001. Bill has spent more than two decades advancing blended learning models that combine eLearning, simulation workshops, and analytics-driven coaching, designed to deliver the most effective process improvement training to global audiences.
Bill brings more than 40 years of hands-on experience as a Lean Six Sigma practitioner. He was trained in Statistical Process Control by W. Edwards Deming while at Ford Motor Company, and was sent by Ford to attend Peter Senge's Fifth Discipline executive education program at MIT. These formative experiences grounded his deeply practical, systems-thinking approach to operational excellence. Before founding MoreSteam, he spent 13 years in manufacturing, quality, and operations management: a decade on the plant floor at Ford, followed by executive-level operations roles at Raytheon (Amana Home Appliances) and Mansfield Plumbing Products.
Bill became an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and is an ASQ Senior Member with over 40 years in the Society. He is also a named inventor on 2 U.S. Patents for statistical analysis methods. In 2009, Bill authored the Blended Learning Playbook, establishing best practices for blended learning program design. This blended framework continues to shape how MoreSteam builds training solutions today.
A sought-after speaker and educator, Bill has been invited to address students and faculty on operational excellence at Northwestern University (Kellogg), the University of Notre Dame, The Ohio State University, California Polytechnic University, and the University of Southern California. He presents regularly at the ASQ World Conference, ASQ Lean and Six Sigma Conference, Lean Six Sigma World Conference, and the IISE Annual Conference. He has led workshops on Lean Six Sigma, operational excellence, data analytics, and blended learning at organizations including Eli Lilly, Pfizer, Rolls-Royce, Quest Diagnostics, the U.S. Navy, AB-InBev, Marriott, Nationwide Insurance, Constellation Energy, and the US Postal Service, among others.
Bill holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a Concentration in Finance from the University of Notre Dame and earned a Masters of Management in Finance and Operations from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
