A value stream is all of the activities an organization performs in order to produce its end product or service. A value stream map should be created prior to any Lean initiative.
EngineRoom for Excel supplies you with a Value Stream palette in Excel. Then click on the options you need - for Information Flow, Lean Manufacturing, Material Flow, and Production Flow - to create your map.
5-Why (Measure / Analyze menus)
The 5-Why analysis method is used to move past symptoms and understand the true root cause of a problem. It is said that only by asking "Why?" five times, successively, can you delve into a problem deeply enough to understand the ultimate root cause.
This hybrid 5-Why template helps you to track metrics and success through the 5-Why technique. Features include a Pareto table, a trend chart tool, a cascading list of whys, and sections to record countermeasures and verification of success.
A3 Report (Improve menu)
The A3 One-Page Report is a Lean tool that was developed for use in documenting and deciding between improvement plans for relatively short duration Kaizen improvement activities.

Core Process Pull (Improve menu)
With just a few pieces of information about your process, the Core Process Pull worksheet helps you determine the minimum amount of work in process (WIP) your process can have while still maintaining full output.
The worksheet also helps you determine an appropriate plan for reducing WIP from current levels to the new, recommended levels. The worksheet can handle up to a ten step process.
Little's Law Calculator (Improve menu)
With the Little's Law equation, you can balance capacity with demand. This calculator gives you three options to help determine Cycle Time, Completion Rate, or Work-In-Process.
Replenishment Process Pull (Improve menu)
The replenishment pull worksheet allows you to enter the basic inputs needed to determine the key parameters to operate a replenishment pull system.
The worksheet also produces a sample graph to show the 'sawtooth' consumption and replenishment cycles of the pull system.
Standard Work (Improve menu)
After making changes to improve a process, you will want to take steps to avoid reverting to the old routines or methods that didn't work so well.
The Standard Work template lets you (1) define the "as-is" process steps, (2) identify areas where work is required to achieve a balance between capacity and demand, and (3) document the process steps in detail once the balance is achieved and waste has been removed.
