SigmaBrew Game Outline
Welcome to SigmaBrew, the newest simulated project available in the SigmaSim format. In this game, you will try to improve the performance of a large national chain of specialty coffee shops. You will start off in the Define Phase of a DMAIC project. When you are ready to begin, you will review and then select Define Options from a menu. Each selection will present an overview of that option. If you elect to proceed, your project budget will be charged for the time and money indicated. Using the information obtained from the various options, you will then be able to answer the Tollgate Questions for each phase. Your success in answering those questions will determine the improvement of your process. The objective of the game is to generate the greatest process improvement while spending the least amount of time and money to do so. Each SigmaSim game follows the same basic logic, but may have a slightly different scoring scheme. The basic intent of this game is to improve the Output (Y) of your process by the greatest amount, while spending the least amount of project resources (time and money) to do so. This simulated project does not follow a defined roadmap of tools, because real projects do not present themselves in that fashion. Real projects present themselves as a series of questions which must be answered. That’s where the tools come in, but the tools vary from project to project. In this game, you will decide what actions to take, and which tools to use, in order to answer the Critical Questions for the Tollgate Review of each project phase. You must work through the project in a phase-wise manner, starting at Define and working through the DMAIC process. Select as many Options as you would like within each phase in order to collect information prior to answering the Tollgate Questions for that phase. In this game, each Option selected within the investigative phase of the project bears a cost in terms of time and money, although some options may be free. This cost is presented prior to selection of that option, so you will know the cost of your choices before you choose them. Once selected, your project budget will be adjusted to reflect the cost in time or money of that choice. These are called Project Metrics, and are shown on the Project Scorecard. The Scorecard shows your Project Metrics (time and money spent) and Process Metrics (process output, or “Y”) which may include a Sigma Level. There will be one or two process metrics, and the scores will be shown in a cumulative fashion by phase. The ROI calculation shows the benefit of your process improvement compared to your investment in time and money to accomplish the improvement. ROI as a function of your current phase also determines your "Project Health", which may impact the effectiveness of your actions. ![]() |
