Get Your Game Face On and Learn
Late last month, in a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) program, James Gee, a professor from Arizona State University, espoused the value of well-designed video games to better prepare students to solve some of our greatest challenges. His conclusion about the current educational design found in post-secondary educational institutions: "The current school curriculum is like giving you the manual without the game."
Learn how Gee sees modern learning theory and game design coming together in what he calls a Situated Learning Matrix. Read Gee's "Learning and Games" chapter in The Ecology of Games offered as an open access e-book by MIT Press. The publication includes chapters from a variety of authors who provide insightful thought seeds for trainers and educators alike.

Even NASA Offers Play Time
Yes, even NASA has entered the games space race. You may not be a rocket scientist but NASA will give you the opportunity to try your hand at being an air traffic controller. NASA's latest outreach effort offers a Facebook trivia game called Space Race Blastoff and an air traffic control simulator entitled Sector 33.
Sector 33 is a mobile game for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. It is designed to supplement the middle school math curriculum but offers some light mental amusement for adults as well.
